Getting There

  • Car

    From the Þingvellir National Park Visitor Center, follow the main road (Þingvellir Road) towards the park’s interior. Continue straight for about 3 km until you reach a fork in the road. Take the left fork to stay on Þingvellir Road. After another 1 km, you will see a sign for Hvannagjá on your left. Park your car at the designated parking area near the trailhead. From the parking lot, follow the marked walking path towards the Hvannagjá location, which is approximately a 15-minute walk.

  • Public Transportation

    If you are using public transport, take a bus from Reykjavik to Þingvellir National Park. The bus will drop you off at the Þingvellir National Park bus stop. From there, follow the same directions as for car travel. Head towards the Visitor Center, then along Þingvellir Road, and look for the Hvannagjá sign after about 3 km. You may need to walk approximately 15 minutes from the bus stop to reach Hvannagjá.

  • Walking

    If you are already in Þingvellir National Park and would like to walk to Hvannagjá, start from the Visitor Center. Follow the path leading towards Þingvallavatn Lake. Continue along the lakeside trail for about 2 km. You will come across a junction; take the path leading to Hvannagjá. The terrain may be uneven, so wear sturdy footwear. The walk should take approximately 30 minutes.
