Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Iowa State University Memorial Union, walk east along central campus, past Parks Library, towards the Iowa State Center. The Scheman Building will be on your right, north of Hilton Coliseum. The Brunnier Art Museum is located on the second floor of the Scheman Building. Admission is free.

  • Public Transport

    CyRide, Ames' public transportation, has several routes that stop near the Iowa State Center. From the Ames Intermodal Facility, take the #25 Gold Route to Welch/Chamberlain, which is one block from the Scheman Building. Alternatively, take the #1 Red Eastbound or #3 Blue to Lincoln Way/Welch, which is two blocks away. A single ride fare is $1.25.

  • Driving

    From I-35, take Highway 30 west to the University Boulevard exit. Head north past the stadium and turn left onto Center Drive. Turn right into the drive on the east side of Hilton Coliseum and proceed to the parking lot on the north side. The Scheman Building is at the far west end of the lot. Free parking is available in Lot B1 north of the Scheman Building. During game days, parking is in the 'F' lot between C.Y. Stephens and Fisher Theater.

The museum's story began with Henry and Ann Brunnier, whose initial gift of decorative arts and dolls formed the core of the collection. Since its opening in 1975, the Brunnier Art Museum has expanded significantly, now boasting over 30,000 objects thanks to contributions from more than 600 private donors. The museum's collection includes ceramics, glass, dolls, ivory, jade, and enameled metals from the Brunnier Collection, alongside prints, paintings, sculptures, textiles, carpets, wood, lacquered objects, silver, and furniture from the University Art Collection. The Brunnier Art Museum not only showcases a diverse range of art but also serves as an educational resource. With regularly changing exhibitions and a variety of programs such as lectures and gallery walks, the museum provides learning opportunities for visitors of all ages.
