Getting There

  • Car

    If you're driving from Hakone, head east on Route 1 towards Odawara. Follow the signs for Route 135 and take the exit for Kamakura. Continue on Route 134, which will lead you into Kamakura. Once you reach Kamakura, look for signs to Komachi Street (Komachi-dori). Hongaku-ji is located at 1 Chome-12-12 Komachi. Parking is limited in the area, so it's advisable to find a public parking lot nearby, which may charge around 500 to 1000 JPY for a few hours.

  • Train

    To reach Hongaku-ji via public transportation, start at Hakone-Yumoto Station and board the Hakone Tozan Line train towards Odawara. At Odawara Station, transfer to the JR Tokaido Line and take a train to Kamakura Station. The journey will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Once at Kamakura Station, exit the station and walk south towards Komachi Street (about a 10-15 minute walk). Continue straight to reach Hongaku-ji at 1 Chome-12-12 Komachi.

    If you prefer to take a bus, from Hakone, you can catch the Odakyu Hakone Highway Bus to Kamakura Station. The bus ride takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Once at Kamakura Station, walk south towards Komachi Street, which should take about 10-15 minutes. Follow the signs to find Hongaku-ji at 1 Chome-12-12 Komachi. The bus fare is approximately 1,200 JPY.
