If you are traveling by car, head to the Otsu area from Kyoto. Take the Meishin Expressway and exit at Otsu. Follow the signs for Route 161 towards Sakamoto. After about 10 minutes, look for signs indicating the Former Chikurin-in Temple, located at 5 Chome-2-13 Sakamoto. Parking is available nearby, but be aware that there may be a fee.

Train and Walking
For those using public transportation, take the JR train from Kyoto Station to Otsu Station. This journey takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Otsu Station, transfer to the Keihan Line and take the train towards Sakamoto Station. After about 15 minutes, exit at Sakamoto Station. From the station, it’s a 10-minute walk to the Former Chikurin-in Temple. Simply head south on Sakamoto Street, and follow the signs leading to the temple.

Alternatively, you can take a bus from Kyoto Station directly to Sakamoto. Board the bus number 20 or 21. The bus ride will take approximately 40 minutes. Disembark at the Sakamoto stop, and from there, the Former Chikurin-in Temple is a short 10-minute walk. Follow the pedestrian paths and look for signage directing you towards the temple.
