Getting There

  • Car

    From Nara city center, take Route 169 heading north towards Otsu. Follow the signs for Route 1 and continue on this road for approximately 30 kilometers. After entering Otsu, follow the signs for Sakamotohonmachi. The Enryaku-ji Daikodo (Grand Lecture Hall) will be located at 4220 Sakamotohonmachi, on your right. There is parking available nearby.

    From Nara Station, take the Kintetsu Nara Line to Yamato-Saidaiji Station. Transfer to the JR Yamatoji Line towards Nara and get off at Otsu Station. From Otsu Station, take bus number 61 towards Hieizan. Get off at the Hieizan Enryaku-ji bus stop, and the Enryaku-ji Daikodo (Grand Lecture Hall) is a short walk uphill from the bus stop. Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance as service may vary.
