Getting There

  • Car

    If you're traveling by car, start from the center of Osumi. Head northwest on Route 220, following the signs towards Kirishima National Park. After approximately 25 kilometers, take the exit onto Route 3 towards Kumamoto. Continue for another 60 kilometers until you reach the junction for Route 145. Follow Route 145, which leads directly to Oze National Park. The total drive time is around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic conditions. Be aware of toll fees on some expressways, which can cost around 1,500 to 3,000 yen.

  • Public Transportation

    If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from Osumi to the nearest major train station, which is Kagoshima Chuo Station. Buses depart regularly, and the fare is approximately 1,000 yen. From Kagoshima Chuo Station, board the Shinkansen (bullet train) heading towards Tokyo and transfer at Ueno Station to the Joetsu Shinkansen line towards Takasaki. Get off at the Numata Station. From Numata Station, take a local bus that goes directly to Oze National Park. The bus fare is about 1,500 yen, and the total travel time will be around 4 to 5 hours, including transfers.
