Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car within Mount Elgon National Park, start your journey from the park headquarters located in the town of Kitale. From Kitale, head towards the park entrance at the Suam River. Once you have entered the park, follow the main road leading to the various hiking trails. Continue along the road until you reach the Saboti Look-out location, which is approximately 15 kilometers from the entrance. Look for the signposts that indicate the way to Saboti Look-out. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Saboti Look-out using public transportation, take a matatu (shared taxi) from Kitale to the park entrance at Suam River. The matatus frequently depart from the Kitale town center. Once at the park entrance, you may need to hire a local guide or a taxi to take you to the Saboti Look-out, as public transport does not directly service this area. The cost for the matatu ride is approximately 100-200 KES, and hiring a guide or taxi may cost around 1,500-2,500 KES depending on negotiation and distance.

• Hiking

  If you are already in the vicinity of the hiking trails in Mount Elgon National Park, you can hike to Saboti Look-out. Start from the nearest trailhead and follow the marked trail leading to Saboti Look-out. The hike can take approximately 2-3 hours depending on your pace, and it is advisable to go with a guide to avoid getting lost. Ensure you have enough water and snacks, as the hike can be strenuous.
