Getting There

Car
From any location in Bokeo Province, head towards the town of Pak Beng. Take Route 2E, which is well-marked and heads north. After approximately 2 hours of driving (around 100 km), you will reach Pak Beng. From Pak Beng, continue on Route 2E for another 3 hours (approximately 140 km) until you reach the border town of Huay Xai. Once in Huay Xai, you will need to cross the Mekong River via the Huay Xai ferry to reach the Thai side. After crossing, follow the signs to Chiang Rai. Continue driving towards Wiang Kaen District. The scenic viewpoint of Phu Chi Dao will be on your left as you approach the area. Make sure to look out for signs indicating the viewpoint.

If you are using public transportation, start by taking a bus from your location in Bokeo Province to Pak Beng. Buses run frequently and the journey takes about 2 hours. Once in Pak Beng, you will need to catch another bus heading to Huay Xai. This leg of the journey will take approximately 3 hours. After arriving in Huay Xai, you will need to take a ferry across the Mekong River to reach Chiang Rai. From Huay Xai, find a bus or shared taxi heading to Chiang Rai, which will take around 4-5 hours. Make sure to confirm the final stop as Wiang Kaen District. From Wiang Kaen District, you can hire a local taxi or motorcycle taxi to take you directly to Phu Chi Dao. This last leg may cost around 100,000 LAK.
