Caumasee: The Turquoise Jewel of Flims

Nestled in the Grisons region of Switzerland, Caumasee (also known as Lake Cauma) is a mesmerizing alpine lake renowned for its strikingly turquoise waters. The lake's name, "Lag la Cauma," translates to "Lake Siesta" in Romansh, hinting at its serene and relaxing atmosphere. Surrounded by dense woodlands, the lake offers a refreshing escape, with water temperatures averaging 21°C (70°F) in the summer. Formed by a prehistoric rockslide, Caumasee is fed by underground springs, contributing to its unique color and relatively warmer temperature compared to other alpine lakes. A small, wooded island sits in the center of the lake, adding to the scenic charm. Visitors can enjoy swimming in the designated bathing area (Bogn La Cauma) during the summer months (late May to September). A restaurant with a sun terrace offers dining with stunning lake views. For recreation, there are options to rent pedal boats or stand-up paddleboards and explore the lake. Hiking trails around the lake and through the surrounding forests provide opportunities for exploration and panoramic views. To preserve the tranquility and natural beauty, certain rules apply: dogs are not allowed in the swimming area, barbecues and fires are prohibited, and the use of drones is forbidden.
