The Bayerischer Löwe, or Bavarian Lion, is an iconic sculpture that graces the entrance to Lindau harbor on Lake Constance. Crafted from six massive blocks of Kelheimer marble, the lion stands six meters tall and weighs approximately 70 tons. Perched on a Nagelfluh pedestal, the sculpture is a masterpiece of detail, showcasing the skill of sculptor Johann von Halbig, whose signature can be found on the east side of the base. The lion's gaze is directed peacefully towards Austria, symbolizing harmony between neighbors on Lake Constance. The pedestal itself is adorned with symbols, including a weathered Bavarian coat of arms on the east side, held by two lions. The lion embodies the strength, courage, and sovereignty of Bavaria. Together with the New Lighthouse, the Bavarian Lion forms one of Europe's most beautiful harbor entrances, inviting visitors from around the world.
