The Mangturm, standing proudly in Lindau's harbor, is a captivating vestige of the town's medieval past. Constructed in the 12th century, this robust stone tower was a key component of Lindau's defenses, guarding the harbor entrance and serving as a watchtower. Named after the Tuch- und Mangenhaus, warehouses of the clothiers’ guild, the tower’s name is derived from Mange or Mangel – the dyers' smoothing machine. Rising approximately 20 meters (65 feet), the Mangturm boasts walls three meters thick and a distinctive conical red roof adorned with glazed tiles, making it easily recognizable.
