Getting There

• Metro

  From Gaithersburg, walk to the Gaithersburg Metro Station on the Red Line. Board a train heading towards Glenmont. Travel for approximately 30 minutes and disembark at the Rockville Metro Station. Transfer to the Red Line towards Shady Grove and continue for 5 stops until you reach the Metro Center. Here, transfer to the Orange, Blue, or Silver Line heading towards Largo Town Center, and exit at the Smithsonian station. From there, walk towards Constitution Ave NW, and you will find the General José Gervasio Artigas Statue nearby.

• Bus

  From your location in Gaithersburg, locate the nearest bus stop for the Ride On Bus service. You can take the Ride On Route 55 or 59 towards the Shady Grove Metro Station. The ride will take approximately 25-30 minutes. Upon reaching Shady Grove, transfer to the Metro Red Line towards Glenmont and follow the directions above to transfer to the Orange, Blue, or Silver Line at Metro Center to reach the Smithsonian station.

• Bicycle

  If you're comfortable cycling, you can rent a bike from a local bike-sharing service. Start from Gaithersburg and follow the paths towards the Washington and Old Dominion Trail. Ride southeast towards Washington, D.C., which will take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you reach the National Mall area, navigate to Constitution Ave NW, where the General José Gervasio Artigas Statue is located. Be mindful of traffic and ensure you follow cycling rules.

• Walking

  If you prefer to walk, you can take a long hike from Gaithersburg to Washington, D.C. It will take several hours (approximately 3 to 4 hours), so ensure you are prepared with comfortable shoes and water. Follow the path along the Washington and Old Dominion Trail, which leads you through scenic areas until you reach the National Mall. Once there, head towards Constitution Ave NW to find the statue.
