From Paterson, head to the nearest NJ Transit bus stop. Take the NJ Transit Bus No. 73 towards New York Port Authority Bus Terminal. The bus ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at the Port Authority, exit the terminal and head towards 8th Avenue. Walk south on 8th Avenue until you reach West 14th Street. Turn left on West 14th Street and walk east until you reach Gansevoort Street. Turn right onto Gansevoort Street, and the Whitney Museum of American Art will be on your left at 99 Gansevoort St.

From Paterson, walk to the Paterson Train Station and take an NJ Transit train on the North Jersey Coast Line towards New York Penn Station. The train ride should take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Penn Station, exit the station and walk to 7th Avenue. From there, take the subway: catch the A, C, or E train downtown to 14th Street. Once you exit at 14th Street, walk west to 8th Avenue, then south on 8th Avenue to West 14th Street. Turn left onto West 14th Street, then right onto Gansevoort Street. The Whitney Museum will be on your left at 99 Gansevoort St.
