Bus
Start your journey at the Poughkeepsie Train Station. From there, take the Dutchess County Public Transit Bus #5 towards Kingston. Stay on the bus for approximately 30 minutes. Get off at the stop at the intersection of NY-28 and Ashokan Road. From there, it's about a 15-minute walk to the Ashokan Reservoir. Head west on NY-28 and then turn right onto Ashokan Road. Continue straight, and you'll see the entrance to the Ashokan Reservoir.

Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Poughkeepsie. Start at the Walkway Over the Hudson, which offers a scenic view. Cycle towards the Hudson River and follow the signs for the Rail Trail. Stay on the trail, which will lead you towards the Ashokan Rail Trail. The ride is approximately 15 miles and takes about an hour. Once you reach the Ashokan Rail Trail, follow it to the reservoir entrance.

Walking
If you're up for an adventure, you can walk to Ashokan Reservoir from Poughkeepsie. Start at the Poughkeepsie Waterfront, and head west on Main Street towards the intersection with Route 9. Follow Route 9 north for about 3 miles until you reach the intersection with NY-28. Continue on NY-28 for another 5 miles. Once you reach Ashokan Road, turn right and walk for about 1 mile to the entrance of the reservoir. The total walk is approximately 9 miles and will take about 3 hours.
