From the town of Paihia, head south on Puketona Road towards State Highway 11. Continue onto State Highway 11 for approximately 7 kilometers until you reach the town of Opua. Here, you will find the Opua Ferry Terminal. Take the ferry across to Okiato, which costs around NZD 15 per vehicle. After disembarking, follow the signs to Russell by continuing on Okiato Road, which will eventually merge into Russell Road. Drive into Russell and park your vehicle at the Russell wharf.

From Paihia, you can take a bus operated by the Bay of Islands Transport. Board the bus at the Paihia Bus Stop, located near the waterfront. The bus will take you to Russell, where you can get off at the Russell Wharf stop. The bus fare is approximately NZD 7. From the Russell Wharf, you will need to arrange a water taxi or boat shuttle to Motuarohia Island. There are several local operators, and the cost typically ranges from NZD 30 to NZD 50 per person for a return trip.
