Bus
To reach Cave Rock / Tuawera from the Christchurch city center, head to the Bus Interchange located at 10 Lichfield Street. Take the number 3 bus towards Sumner. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Get off at the 'Sumner Village' stop. From there, walk down the main road (Sumner Road) until you reach the Esplanade. Turn left onto the Esplanade, and continue walking for about 5 minutes until you reach Cave Rock, located at 16 Esplanade.

Cycling
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the many rental shops in Christchurch. Head towards the Avon River and follow the cycle paths that lead to Sumner. The route takes approximately 45 minutes, depending on your pace. Once you arrive at the Esplanade in Sumner, follow it until you reach Cave Rock at 16 Esplanade.

Walking
For those who enjoy walking, you can start from the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. Walk south towards Rolleston Ave, then follow the signs to the Avon River. Walk alongside the river until you reach the coastal pathway towards Sumner. This scenic route will take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive in Sumner, head to the Esplanade and continue walking until you reach Cave Rock at 16 Esplanade.
