Getting There

  • Bus

    Start at the Christchurch Central Bus Station located at 37 Lichfield Street. Take Bus Route 3 (the 'Cashmere' route) towards Cashmere. You will need to pay the fare, which can be done via a Metrocard or cash. Stay on the bus for approximately 20 minutes until you reach the 'Cashmere Hills' stop. Once you disembark, walk east along Cashmere Road until you reach the entrance to the Port Hills.

    If you are in the central city, start at Cathedral Square. Walk south along Colombo Street until you reach the intersection with Armagh Street. Turn right onto Armagh Street and continue walking until you reach Durham Street. Turn left onto Durham Street and follow it as it curves into Cashmere Road. Continue walking straight for about 3 kilometers; you will eventually reach the Port Hills area, where you can access various walking trails and viewpoints.

    If you are renting a bicycle, start from the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. Head south on the cycle path along the Avon River until you reach the intersection with Rolleston Avenue. Turn left onto Rolleston Avenue and continue to the end, where it meets the intersection with Riccarton Avenue. Turn right and head towards the Cashmere area. Follow the signs for 'Port Hills' along the designated cycling routes. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes, depending on your cycling speed.
