If you're traveling by car, start from Palmerston North, the largest city in the Manawatu-Wanganui region. Head east on State Highway 3 (SH3) towards Wanganui. Continue on SH3 for about 70 km until you reach the junction with State Highway 4 (SH4). Take the exit onto SH4 towards National Park. After approximately 17 km, turn left onto Okupata Road. Follow this road for about 5 km, and you will reach the Okupata Caves parking area. Make sure to check the weather conditions and road status before your journey, as some roads may be affected by rain or weather events.

If you are using public transportation, take a bus from Palmerston North to National Park. The bus service, such as the InterCity or Naked Bus, operates several times a day. Once you arrive at National Park, you will need to arrange a taxi or shuttle service to take you to Okupata Caves. This is approximately a 15 km journey. Remember to book your taxi or shuttle in advance, as services may be limited. The cost for the bus can vary but expect to pay around NZD 20-40 depending on the service and time of booking.
