From the Whangarei Town Basin, head to the nearest bus stop located at the corner of Bank Street and Reyburn Street. Take the Northland Bus service heading towards Waipu. Inform the driver that you want to get off at Waipu Caves Road. The journey will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at Waipu, walk along Waipu Caves Road for about 1.5 km until you reach the Waipu Caves Scenic Reserve entrance.

Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the local bike rental shops in Whangarei. Start at the Whangarei Town Basin and head north along the Hatea River pathway. Follow the signs towards the Whangarei Heads Road. Once you reach the junction with State Highway 1, turn right and continue on this road. After about 12 km, turn left onto Waipu Caves Road. The scenic reserve will be about 1.5 km ahead on your right.

Walking
If you're feeling adventurous and want to walk, start from the Whangarei Town Basin and make your way up to State Highway 1. This will be a long trek of about 20 km, so ensure you're prepared with plenty of water and snacks. Once you reach State Highway 1, head north for about 12 km until you reach the turnoff for Waipu Caves Road. Turn left onto Waipu Caves Road and walk for another 1.5 km to reach the entrance of the Waipu Caves Scenic Reserve.
