Getting There

• Walking

  From the center of Foz do Douro, start by heading towards the river. Walk along Avenida de Montevideu towards the Douro River waterfront. Continue straight until you reach the large promenade along the river called Cais da Ribeira. Follow this path, enjoying the scenic views of the Douro River and the ocean. After approximately 15-20 minutes of walking, you will notice the iconic lighthouse, Farolim da Barra do Douro, at the mouth of the river, where it meets the Atlantic Ocean.

• Public Transport (Bus)

  If you prefer to take public transport, you can catch the local bus. From Avenida de Montevideu, walk to the nearest bus stop and take bus number 500 towards 'Praia de Matosinhos.' After about 10 minutes, get off at the 'Foz do Douro' bus stop. From there, continue walking along the riverside promenade towards the lighthouse, which is about a 15-minute walk away. The bus fare is approximately €2.00.

• Bicycle

  For a more active approach, consider renting a bicycle. There are several bike rental stations throughout Foz do Douro. Once you have a bike, head towards the riverside path (Cais da Ribeira) and cycle along the waterfront. The ride to Farolim da Barra do Douro is scenic and takes about 10-15 minutes. Remember to follow the cycling paths and be aware of pedestrians.
