Getting There

  • Car

    If you're driving from Hambantota, head east on the A2 highway. Continue for about 10 km until you reach the turn-off for Rekawa. Turn left onto the Rekawa Road (also known as Rekawa Lagoon Road). Follow this road for approximately 6 km until you reach the lagoon area. Keep an eye out for signs directing you towards Rekawa Lagoon. There is usually ample parking available at the site.

  • Public Bus

    Start your journey at the main bus station in Hambantota. Look for a bus heading towards Tangalle, which is a common route. Ensure to inform the conductor that you want to get off at Rekawa. The bus ride will take about 30 minutes. Once you reach the Rekawa junction, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 km to the lagoon. Alternatively, you can catch a tuk-tuk from the junction to the lagoon for a small fee (around 150 LKR).

  • Tuk-Tuk

    If you're in the vicinity of Hambantota or Tangalle, you can hire a tuk-tuk directly to Rekawa Lagoon. Negotiate the fare beforehand; it should cost approximately 500 to 1000 LKR depending on your starting point and the distance. The ride will give you a more local experience and you can ask the driver to take you directly to the lagoon.
