Experience New Elephant Shed (NES)

Getting There

  • Walking

    From the main entrance of the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, head straight along the main road towards Rambukkana. After approximately 1 km, you will reach a junction. Turn left at the junction and continue walking for about 500 meters. You will see a sign for New Elephant Shed (NES) on your right. The walk should take around 15-20 minutes.

  • Car

    If you are driving, exit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and take the main road towards Rambukkana. After about 1 km, you will approach a junction. Turn left at the junction and continue driving for approximately 500 meters. Look for the New Elephant Shed (NES) on your right. There is usually parking available nearby, but be prepared for a small fee, generally around 100 LKR.

  • Tuk Tuk

    For a more local experience, you can hire a tuk-tuk from outside the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Negotiate a fare, which should be around 200-300 LKR for a one-way trip to New Elephant Shed (NES). The driver will take you directly to the location, which is about 1.5 km away and should take around 5-10 minutes.

  • Public Bus

    If you prefer public transportation, you can catch a bus from the bus stop near the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Look for a bus heading towards Rambukkana. Get off at the nearest stop to the New Elephant Shed (NES), which is about 500 meters away. The bus fare is typically around 20 LKR. From the bus stop, walk towards the left for about 5 minutes until you see the New Elephant Shed (NES).
