Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, head towards the town of Stromness, which is one of the main towns in Orkney. From Stromness, take the A965 road heading northwest. After approximately 6 miles, you will reach the junction with the B9056. Turn left onto the B9056 and continue for about 1.5 miles. You will see signs for Bay of Skaill; follow these signs, and you will arrive at the bay area, which is well-marked.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Bay of Skaill by public transport, take the bus service from Kirkwall to Stromness. The bus service is operated by Stagecoach, and you can check their schedules online for the latest timings. Once you arrive in Stromness, you will need to take the local bus that operates towards the B9056 area, or you might need to take a taxi for the remaining distance (approximately 3 miles) to reach Bay of Skaill. Ensure to check the bus timings in advance as they may vary.

• Walking

  If you are already in Stromness and prefer walking, you can walk to Bay of Skaill. It is about a 2-hour walk (approximately 6 miles). From Stromness, head northwest along the coast, following the A965 road until you reach the B9056 junction. Turn left onto B9056 and continue until you reach the bay. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and check the weather conditions before setting out.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct option, you can hire a taxi from any location in Orkney. Taxis are available in both Kirkwall and Stromness. The journey from either town to Bay of Skaill should take around 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic. Make sure to confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey.
