From anywhere in Orkney, make your way to Stromness. If you're starting from Kirkwall, take the A964 southbound towards Stromness. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Once you reach Stromness, head to the ferry terminal located at the waterfront. You'll need to park your car at the ferry terminal. The ferry to Hoy departs regularly but check the schedule ahead of time as it can vary based on the season.

Take the ferry from Stromness to Hoy. The ferry crossing takes about 30 minutes. Upon arrival at the Hoy terminal, you can either walk or take a local taxi to the start of the walking trail that leads to the Old Man of Hoy. The trailhead is approximately 3 miles from the ferry terminal.

Once you arrive at the Hoy terminal, follow the signs to the Old Man of Hoy trailhead. The walk to the Old Man is about 4 miles one way and takes approximately 2-3 hours depending on your fitness level. The trail is well-marked and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.
