Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, head towards York city center. Use the A64 road if coming from the south or the A19 from the north. Once you reach York, follow signs for the city center. From the car parks, it's a short walk (about 10-15 minutes) to the City Walls, which start from various points around the city.

• Train

Upon arrival, exit the station and follow signs to the city center. It's a pleasant 10-minute walk from the station to the City Walls. Head down Station Road and cross the river using either the Lendal Bridge or the Ouse Bridge.

  For those using public buses, several services run to York from surrounding areas. Look for buses that go to 'York City Centre'. Once you arrive at the main bus station, you will be just a short walk from the City Walls. Head towards the Minster, and you will find the walls running alongside the city center. Be mindful of bus fares, which usually range from £2 to £5 depending on the distance traveled.

  If you are already in York or nearby, walking is a great way to reach the City Walls. The walls are easily accessible from various parts of the city. Look for signs directing you to the walls, or use a smartphone map to guide you. Notable points to access the walls include Bootham Bar and Monk Bar. Walking around the walls is free and provides stunning views of the city.
