Discover more about Grandview Point

Grandview Point, perched at approximately 7,400 feet (2,250 meters) above sea level, stands as one of the South Rim's most captivating viewpoints. Situated along Desert View Drive (SR 64), roughly midway between Grand Canyon Village and Desert View, this vantage point provides sweeping panoramic vistas of the Grand Canyon. Visitors are treated to breathtaking views that stretch across vast expanses of the canyon, revealing the Colorado River and the myriad layers of colorful rock strata that narrate the area's geological history. The point is particularly renowned for its stunning sunrises and sunsets, painting the canyon in vibrant hues. In the late 1890s, Grandview Point was the center of mining operations led by Ralph Cameron and Pete Berry, who extracted copper, gold, and silver from the area. Berry constructed the Grandview Hotel between 1892 and 1897, which became the first tourist destination at the Grand Canyon. The arrival of the Santa Fe Railroad in 1901 shifted the tourist hub westward, leading to the hotel's eventual dismantling. Today, the National Park Service has restored the area to its natural state. From Grandview Point, hikers can access the Grandview Trail, originally built in 1893 to support mining operations. This trail descends steeply into the canyon and offers a challenging route for experienced hikers.
