Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from the Saguaro National Park Visitor Center, head east on E Broadway Blvd toward S Houghton Rd. Continue for about 4 miles until you reach S Houghton Rd. Turn right onto S Houghton Rd and continue for approximately 8 miles. After that, turn left onto E Sahuarita Rd and follow it for about 2 miles. You will see signs for Garwood Dam. The location will be on your right. There is no entrance fee specifically for Garwood Dam, but there is an entrance fee for Saguaro National Park.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Garwood Dam using public transportation, start at the Saguaro National Park Visitor Center. Take the Sun Tran bus route #18 (East Broadway) towards the Eastside. You will need to transfer to route #4 (Houghton Road) at the nearest stop. Stay on route #4 for approximately 30 minutes, then request a stop near E Sahuarita Rd. From there, you will need to walk approximately 1 mile to reach Garwood Dam. Note that public transportation schedules may vary, so check the Sun Tran website for the latest times and routes.

• Bicycle

  For an adventurous option, consider biking to Garwood Dam. Starting from the Saguaro National Park Visitor Center, head east on E Broadway Blvd and turn right on S Houghton Rd. The total biking distance is about 14 miles one way. Ensure your bike is in good condition, bring plenty of water, and wear a helmet. This route is mostly along the main roads, so be cautious of traffic.

• Walking/Hiking

  If you are feeling particularly adventurous and are already near the trailheads in Saguaro National Park, you can opt to hike towards Garwood Dam. However, please note that this will require significant planning and stamina as the distance from the nearest trailhead is about 6 miles. It is advisable to use a GPS or map application to ensure you stay on track and carry sufficient water and snacks.
