The Alley of Martyrs, also known as Şəhidlər Xiyabanı, is a deeply significant memorial site in Baku, Azerbaijan. It commemorates the victims of the Black January events of 1990, when Soviet troops suppressed Azerbaijani independence demonstrations, and those who died in the First Nagorno-Karabakh War of 1988-1994. Originally, the area was a Muslim cemetery for victims of the March Events of 1918. During the Soviet era, it was transformed into an amusement park. However, following the Black January tragedy, it was reinstated as a burial site for national heroes. The memorial complex features graves and an eternal flame. In 1999, a memorial to the Turkish soldiers who died in Azerbaijan in 1918 was installed. Visitors can reflect on Azerbaijan's history and honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives. The site offers panoramic views of Baku and the Caspian Sea. The Alley of Martyrs is open 24 hours a day and has no admission fee.
