Discover more about Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos

The Serra dos Órgãos National Park, or PARNASO, is a protected area spanning over 20,000 hectares across the municipalities of Teresópolis, Petrópolis, Guapimirim and Magé. Created in 1939, it was the third national park established in Brazil. The park's name comes from early Portuguese settlers who thought the mountain peaks resembled organ pipes. The park's diverse landscape includes towering mountains, deep valleys and an abundance of rivers and waterfalls. The park is known for its biodiversity, with over 2,800 cataloged plant species and a wide array of animal life, including jaguatiricas, monkeys, and diverse bird species. Visitors can explore a network of trails, ranging from easy walks to challenging multi-day treks. Popular trails include the Trilha Cartão Postal (Postcard Trail), Trilha Pedra do Sino (Bell Rock Trail), and the demanding Travessia Petrópolis-Teresópolis, a 30 km traverse considered one of Brazil's most beautiful hikes. The park also offers opportunities for rock climbing and rappelling. The park has three main entrances: Teresópolis, Petrópolis, and Guapimirim. Each offers unique access to different areas and attractions within the park.
