Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Sofia, take a bus to Dupnitsa from the Central Bus Station (approximately 1.5 hours, ~2 Lev). From Dupnitsa, take a bus to Sapareva Banya (30 minutes). From Sapareva Banya, a taxi or shuttle can take you to the Pionerska hut/chairlift base (4 lev, approximately €2). The chairlift provides access to the Seven Rila Lakes. A return ticket for the lift costs approximately 18 Lev (€9). Alternatively, hike from Pionerska Hut to Rilski Ezera hut (2-3 hours).

  • Driving

    From Sofia, drive south towards Sapareva Banya (approximately 1.5-2 hours). Continue to the Pionerska hut area, where you can find parking. Parking availability may be limited during peak season. From Pionerska hut, take the chairlift to the Rila Lakes. A return ticket for the lift costs approximately 18 Lev (€9). Alternatively, hike from the parking lot to the Seven Rila Lakes, adding an extra 1.5 hours uphill.

Rila National Park, established in 1992, encompasses diverse terrain, from lower altitudes to the Balkan Peninsula's highest peak, Musala Peak (2925m).
