This mountain pass has a rich history, initially serving as Johnson's Pass on Meyers Grade. In 1968, it gained prominence as the high-altitude training center and site of the U.S. Olympic men's track and field trials, where four world records were broken. The U.S. team selected here went on to achieve remarkable success at the Mexico City Olympic Games. Today, Echo Summit is a popular year-round destination for outdoor recreation.
