Discover more about Happy Isles Bridge

Happy Isles Bridge is more than just a crossing; it's the starting point for countless adventures into Yosemite's wilderness. Situated near the Nature Center at Happy Isles, at the eastern end of Yosemite Valley, the bridge provides access to the iconic Mist Trail, leading to Vernal Fall and Nevada Fall, as well as the legendary John Muir Trail. Originally constructed in 1921 as the Happy Isles Gauging Station Bridge, it replaced earlier structures dating back to 1883. While initially intended for vehicle traffic, a new bridge was built downstream in 1929 to accommodate increasing traffic, and the Happy Isles Gauging Station Bridge became primarily a pedestrian and service route. The bridge also provides access to the Happy Isles Stream Gauge, operated by the U.S. Geological Survey, which has been in continuous operation since 1915 and provides the longest continuous record of streamflow data in California. Today, Happy Isles Bridge remains a vital part of the Yosemite experience, offering not only a practical function but also a sense of anticipation for the natural wonders that await.
