Getting There

Walking
From Yosemite Village, start at the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center. Head west on the main path towards the Yosemite Lodge. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Northside Drive. Turn left onto Northside Drive. Follow the road as it curves around the valley. After approximately 1.5 miles, you will see signs directing you to El Capitan Picnic Area on your right. The picnic area is set back from the road, so look for the entrance that leads into the area.

Biking
If you prefer to bike, start at the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center. Rent a bike if you haven't already. Proceed west on the bike path that runs parallel to Northside Drive. Stay on the bike path for about 2 miles. You will come to a fork; keep left to stay on the path that leads to El Capitan. After a short ride, you will see the sign for El Capitan Picnic Area. There are bike racks available for parking your bike.

During the shuttle season, you can take the Yosemite Valley Shuttle. Catch the shuttle at any of the stops in Yosemite Village, such as the Visitor Center or Yosemite Lodge.
