Getting There

    From the Yosemite Valley, access the Yosemite Falls Trailhead near Camp 4 (shuttle stop #7). Follow the well-marked trail, ascending a series of switchbacks for approximately 1 mile to reach Columbia Rock. The trail is steep, gaining about 1,000 feet in elevation. No fees are required beyond the park entrance fee.

  • Public Transport

    Take the free Yosemite Valley shuttle to stop #7, which is near the Camp 4 area and the Yosemite Falls Trailhead. From the shuttle stop, follow the signs to the Yosemite Falls Trail and continue on foot for approximately 1 mile to Columbia Rock. The Yosemite Valley shuttle is free. However, to enter Yosemite National Park, a vehicle entrance fee of $35 is required. This fee is valid for seven days. Alternatively, you can purchase a Yosemite Annual Pass for $70.

  • Parking

    Park in Yosemite Village or Curry Village and take the free shuttle to the Yosemite Falls Trailhead (Camp 4, shuttle stop #7). Parking is limited, especially during peak season. Parking in Yosemite Valley costs $35 per vehicle, valid for 7 days. Using the shuttle helps avoid parking hassles.

Columbia Rock is a scenic overlook located about a third of the way up the Yosemite Falls Trail, offering breathtaking 180-degree views of Yosemite Valley. The trail to Columbia Rock is the same one that leads to the top of Yosemite Falls. Built in 1877 by John Conway, the 'master trail-builder of Yosemite Valley', the path ascends via a series of switchbacks. The 2.2-mile round trip hike to Columbia Rock gains approximately 1,000 feet in elevation, making it a moderately challenging climb. Even during the Wisconsin stage of glaciation, the Yosemite Valley glacier only reached just below Columbia Rock. Many hikers find the views from Columbia Rock so rewarding that they turn around at this point, making it a popular destination for a shorter hike. For those with more energy, the trail continues another 0.4 miles to Oh My Gosh Point, offering even more unique perspectives of Yosemite Valley.
