Walking
From the center of Arorangi, head east towards the main road (Ara Tapu). When you reach the Ara Tapu, turn left and continue walking along the road. Look for signs indicating Avarua. After about 15-20 minutes, you will reach a junction. Continue straight, passing by local shops and cafes on your right. Keep walking for another 10 minutes until you see the turn-off for Tupapa Tapere. Turn right onto Tupapa Tapere Road and proceed straight. Arai-Te-Tonga is located at the coordinates Q7P2+GX2, Avarua, which you can find by looking for a small path leading towards the beach area. The landmark is near the coast and should be visible in the distance as you approach.
Bicycle
If you prefer to cycle, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Arorangi. Start by heading east towards Ara Tapu. Once you reach the main road, turn left. Cycle past the shops and cafes, and keep going for about 25 minutes. You will come to a junction; continue straight. After another 10 minutes, you’ll reach the turn-off for Tupapa Tapere. Turn right and cycle along Tupapa Tapere Road until you arrive at the coordinates Q7P2+GX2. Look for paths leading down towards the beach where Arai-Te-Tonga is located.
Public Transport
Catch a local bus from Arorangi to Avarua. Buses are generally available every 30 minutes. Inform the driver that you are heading to Arai-Te-Tonga. Once you arrive in Avarua, get off at the nearest bus stop and walk towards Tupapa Tapere Road. You may have to ask locals for directions, as it is not far from the main bus stop. Follow the road until you reach the coordinates Q7P2+GX2, where Arai-Te-Tonga is situated near the beach.
