Discover more about Bonlieu Scène Nationale Annecy

Bonlieu Scène Nationale Annecy is more than just a theatre; it's a dynamic cultural center that plays a vital role in the artistic life of Annecy. Located on the edge of Lake Annecy, facing the scenic Pâquier esplanade, Bonlieu offers a diverse program of performing arts, including theatre, dance, music, and circus. The center aims to foster connections between audiences and contemporary works, showcasing both original creations and existing productions. The building itself is a modern architectural landmark, designed by Haut-Savoyard architect Maurice Novarina in collaboration with Jacques Lévy. Construction began in 1978, and the center was inaugurated in 1981. Bonlieu houses a large theatre with 925 seats, a smaller hall with 270 seats, and a creation room that can accommodate up to 199 standing or 150 seated spectators. The center also includes shops and the city's Tourist Office. Bonlieu's history dates back to the 18th century when a Cistercian community originated in the Bonlieu hamlet in Sallenoves. The name "Bonlieu" pays homage to this heritage, while the center's modern identity reflects its commitment to contemporary culture. In 1992, the theatre officially became a Scène Nationale, and since 2020, Bonlieu has been associated with the Annecy Paysages festival. With over 155,000 spectators per season, Bonlieu is one of the most active performance venues in France.
