Velouchiotis, born in Lamia in 1905, was the chief instigator and leader of the Greek People's Liberation Army (ELAS), the military branch of the National Liberation Front (EAM). This organization was the major resistance force in occupied Greece from 1942 to 1945. The statue captures Velouchiotis in a dynamic pose, embodying bravery and resilience.
