Discover more about Moher Tower at Hag's Head

Perched on the rugged promontory of Hag's Head, Moher Tower is a historic ruin that whispers tales of Ireland's past. This stone tower, built circa 1808, served as a vital lookout post during the Napoleonic Wars, when fears of invasion gripped the Atlantic coasts. Constructed from the remains of an earlier fort known as Mothar, which gave the Cliffs of Moher their name, the tower stands as a testament to strategic defense and the ever-present threat of maritime incursions. Facing the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean, Moher Tower's square structure once featured two-storys, a fireplace, and watchtowers. Today, its roofless ruins provide shelter for native seabirds like choughs and gulls, while offering breathtaking views for visitors. From this vantage point, one can witness the dramatic cliffs stretching northwards, the distant Aran Islands, and the wild beauty of the Irish coastline.
