Getting There

    From the central area of Sassi di Matera, make your way to Piazza Vittorio Veneto. You can start at the famous Casa Grotta di Vico Solitario, which is a short walk away. Head down Via San Giovanni, and when you reach Piazza Vittorio Veneto, take the stairs going down towards Via Bruno Buozzi. Continue along this path until you reach the fork in the road. At the fork, keep to the left and follow the signs leading you to Sasso Caveoso.

    If you are near the Matera Cathedral, exit the cathedral and take the pathway leading down the hill. As you descend, you will see signage directing you towards Sasso Caveoso. Once you’ve reached the base of the hill, turn left onto Via S. Pietro Caveoso. Continue straight until you reach Piazza S. Pietro Caveoso where Sasso Caveoso is located.

    From the Tramontano Castle, exit and head towards the main street, Via Roma. Walk along Via Roma until you reach the intersection at Piazza Vittorio Veneto. From there, follow the previous directions to head towards Sasso Caveoso. The walk will take approximately 15 minutes.
