Getting There

Car
If you are driving from Hakone, first head east on Route 1 (National Route 1) towards Odawara. After about 20 kilometers, take the exit for Route 138 towards Hachioji. Continue on Route 138 for approximately 25 kilometers until you reach Hachioji City. Follow the signs to Mount Takao (Takaosan) which will lead you to the parking area. Note that parking fees are usually around ¥1,000 for the day. Make sure to check for availability as it can fill up quickly on weekends.

Public Transportation
To reach Mount Takao by public transport, start by taking the Hakone Tozan Railway from Hakone-Yumoto Station to Odawara Station. This journey takes about 15 minutes. From Odawara Station, take the JR Tokaido Line to Hachioji Station, which takes around 50 minutes. Once at Hachioji Station, transfer to the Keio Line and take the train to Takaosanguchi Station. This part of the journey takes about 30 minutes. From Takaosanguchi Station, follow the signs to the entrance of Mount Takao, which is about a 10-minute walk. The total cost for this journey is around ¥1,500.
