The Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, now commonly called the Atomic Bomb Dome, is a skeletal ruin and UNESCO World Heritage site. Designed by Czech architect Jan Letzel and completed in 1915, the building initially served as a place to display and sell local products. It later became known as the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall in 1933. On August 6, 1945, at 8:15 a.m., the atomic bomb exploded approximately 600 meters southeast of the hall. The blast and heat rays destroyed the building, killing everyone inside. However, the central part of the building miraculously avoided total collapse. After the war, the skeletal remains became known as the Atomic Bomb Dome. The ruins stand as a stark reminder of the devastation caused by the atomic bomb and symbolize the city's enduring commitment to peace. The surrounding park area provides a tranquil space for contemplation. The Atomic Bomb Dome is a powerful symbol of No More Hiroshimas, appealing to the world for the abolition of nuclear weapons and the importance of permanent peace.
