Getting There

  • Car

    If you're driving from central Hitachi, take Route 6 (the Joban Expressway) heading south. After approximately 70 kilometers, take the exit towards Ueno. Follow the signs for Route 4, then continue to Nishinippori. Once you reach Nishinippori, navigate to 3 Chome-2-6, where Kyōōji is located. Parking may be limited in the area, so be prepared to find street parking.

  • Train

    For those using public transportation, start at Hitachi Station. Take the JR Joban Line south towards Ueno Station. The journey will take around 1 hour. Once at Ueno Station, transfer to the JR Yamanote Line and head towards Nippori Station. From Nippori Station, take the East Exit and walk approximately 15 minutes to Kyōōji, located at 3 Chome-2-6 Nishinippori, Arakawa City. Note that train fares will vary but expect to pay around 1,500 JPY for the total trip.

    Alternatively, you can take a bus from Hitachi Station. Look for the bus service that heads towards Ueno Station. Upon arrival at Ueno, switch to local bus services that go towards Nishinippori. Get off at the nearest stop to Kyōōji and walk approximately 10 minutes to reach the temple. Bus fare will generally be around 1,000 JPY for the trip.
