If you are in central Kyoto, take the JR Sagano Line from Kyoto Station to Saga-Arashiyama Station. The journey takes about 15 minutes and costs around 240 yen. Once you arrive at Saga-Arashiyama Station, exit the station and follow the signs to Tenryu-ji, which is approximately a 15-minute walk. Head northwest on Saga-Tenryuji Susukinobabacho Street until you reach the temple.

From central Kyoto, drive towards the Arashiyama area. Take the R1 (Kyoto City Loop Road) and follow the signs to Arashiyama. The drive typically takes about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Once you reach Arashiyama, look for parking lots near Tenryu-ji. There are public parking areas available, which usually charge around 500 yen for a few hours. After parking, it's a short walk (about 10 minutes) to Tenryu-ji.
