Getting There

  • Car

    From central Kyoto, take the JR San-in Line from Kyoto Station towards Saga-Arashiyama Station. The train ride takes approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Saga-Arashiyama Station, exit the station and take a left onto the main road. Drive for about 5 minutes, following signs for Hogon-in. The temple is located at 〒616-8385 Kyoto, Ukyo Ward, Sagatenryuji Susukinobabacho, 36. Parking is available near the entrance but may incur a small fee.

  • Public Transportation

    From Kyoto Station, board the JR San-in Line towards Saga-Arashiyama Station. After a 30-minute ride, disembark at Saga-Arashiyama Station. After exiting the station, take bus number 28 (towards Hozu River) and get off at the 'Hogon-in' stop. The temple is a short 5-minute walk from the bus stop. Note that the bus fare is around 230 yen.

  • Walking

    If you're already in the Arashiyama area, Hogon-in is within walking distance. From the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, head towards the Togetsukyo Bridge. Cross the bridge and continue straight until you reach the intersection. Turn left onto Sagatenryuji Susukinobabacho, and Hogon-in will be on your right after about a 15-minute walk.
