If you're driving, start from the center of Kyoto and head south on Route 1 (also known as Horikawa-dori). Follow the signs for the Minami Ward. After approximately 3.5 km, turn left onto Kujocho. Tōji Tōdaimon (Grand East Gate) will be on your right at 1 Kujocho, Minami Ward, Kyoto, 601-8473. Parking is available nearby, but it may incur a fee, so be sure to check signage for rates.

From Kyoto Station, take the JR Nara Line towards Nara and get off at Tōji Station (about a 5-minute ride). From Tōji Station, exit the station and walk south towards Kujocho Street (approximately 10-15 minutes on foot). Alternatively, you can take Bus 206 from Kyoto Station, which will take you directly to the Tōji Temple area. The bus fare is around 230 yen.
