Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from Nara Station, exit the station to the east side. Walk towards the Nara Park area, which should take about 20 minutes. As you walk, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and deer that roam freely. Head down Sanjo-dori Street, and when you reach the 'Nijooji' intersection, turn left. Continue walking straight for about 1 kilometer until you reach Heijō Palace Site Historical Park, which will be on your right. Look for the entrance sign.

  • Bus

    From Nara Station, take the Nara Kotsu bus (number 70 or any bus heading towards 'Heijo-kyo'). The bus stop is right outside the station. Get off at the 'Heijo-kyo' bus stop, which is about a 10-15 minute ride. Once you exit the bus, walk towards the park entrance which is just a few minutes away. You will see the park's entrance signs guiding you.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops near Nara Station. Head out from Nara Station and cycle along the main roads towards the Heijō Palace Site. The ride should take about 15 minutes. Follow the directions for walking mentioned above, but on a bicycle, you will have a quicker route.
