    From Zao Onsen, take Route 13 towards Yamagata City. After approximately 25 km, you will reach the junction for Yamadera. Follow the signs for Yamadera (Yamadera is a well-known destination, so the signs are frequent). After about 5 more kilometers, you will arrive at the Yamadera parking area. Note that parking fees may apply, typically around 500 yen. From the parking area, it’s a short walk to the base of Rissyakuji Temple.

    From Zao Onsen, take a bus to Yamagata Station (approximately 40 minutes). Once at Yamagata Station, transfer to the JR Senzan Line and take the train towards Yamadera Station (about 20 minutes). After arriving at Yamadera Station, follow the signs to Rissyakuji Temple, which is a 20-minute uphill walk from the station. Be sure to check the bus and train schedules ahead of time, as they may vary.
