From Zao Onsen, head east on Route 286 towards Yamagata City. After approximately 30 minutes of driving, you will reach the junction for Route 48. Public Transportation
From Zao Onsen, take a bus to Yamagata Station. The ride takes about 30 minutes. At Yamagata Station, transfer to the JR Senzan Line and take a train towards Yamadera Station. The train ride takes around 20 minutes. Once you arrive at Yamadera Station, exit the station and follow the signs for Yamadera Bashō-kinenkan Museum, which is about a 15-minute walk from the station.
