From the bus terminal, local buses or taxis can take you to various trailheads and attractions within the park. The bus from Yamagata Station to Zao Onsen costs around ¥1200.

    Taxis are available from Yamagata Station to Zaō Onsen. The ride takes approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Expect to pay around ¥4,900-6,000. Taxis offer a direct and convenient option, especially if you're traveling with a group or have a lot of gear.

    If traveling by car from Yamagata City, take the Yamagata Expressway towards Zao. Exit at the Zao Interchange and follow the signs to Zao Onsen. Parking is available at various locations in Zao Onsen, with hourly/daily rates. Note that the Zao Echo Line, a tolled road that winds across Zao Mountain Range, is closed during the winter season. Tolls on the Zao Echo Line are around ¥219-316.
