Discover more about Klosterhof

Klosterhof, situated in Wattwil, Switzerland, occupies the grounds of the former St. Maria der Engel Convent. Founded in 1621, the convent boasts a captivating history, initially serving as a sanctuary for Capuchin nuns. The original convent on Panneregg was destroyed by fire in 1620, leading to the construction of the new convent on Wenkenrüti. Over the centuries, the convent played a significant role in the region, providing spiritual guidance and contributing to the local community. In 2010, the last of the Capuchin nuns departed, and in 2012, the Fazenda da Esperança, a therapeutic community, found its home within the Klosterhof. This community offers a structured environment based on community, work, and spirituality for young people facing challenging circumstances, particularly those struggling with addiction. The Fazenda welcomes pilgrims and offers overnight stays. Visitors to Klosterhof can appreciate the historical architecture and serene atmosphere of the former convent. While the living quarters of the Fazenda are private, the chapel and grounds offer a glimpse into the site's storied past. The location also provides a beautiful view of the Thurebene, and on a clear day, the Säntis peak can be seen.
